My Buying Guide on ’87 Topps Baseball Card Set’

I have been collecting baseball cards for many years now and one of my all-time favorite sets is the ’87 Topps Baseball Card Set. This set holds a special place in my collection as it was the first set I ever completed. In this buying guide, I will share my experience and tips for purchasing and collecting the ’87 Topps Baseball Card Set.

Background Information

The 1987 Topps Baseball Card Set was released in 1987 by the Topps Company, Inc. This set consists of 792 cards and features some of the biggest names in baseball at that time including Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, and Don Mattingly. The design of these cards is iconic with a wood grain border and a banner across the top with the player’s name and team.

Condition

When purchasing any baseball card set, condition is key. The better the condition of the cards, the more valuable they will be. When it comes to the ’87 Topps set, there are a few things to look out for in terms of condition.

Firstly, check for centering. Centering refers to how well-centered the image on the card is. A well-centered card will have equal borders on all sides. Off-centering can greatly affect the value of a card.

Secondly, check for corners. Corners should be sharp and free from any creases or bends.

Lastly, check for any creases or marks on the surface of the card. These can greatly decrease its value.

Where to Buy

There are various places where you can purchase ’87 Topps Baseball Cards such as local card shops, online marketplaces like eBay or Amazon, or through online card retailers like Beckett.com.

Personally, I prefer to purchase from local card shops as I am able to inspect the condition of each individual card before making a purchase. However, if you are unable to find a local shop that carries these cards or you are looking for specific players or variations within this set, online marketplaces may be your best option.

Pricing

The price of each card in this set can vary depending on its condition and rarity. Generally speaking, you can expect to pay around $1-2 per common player card in good condition and upwards of $10-20 for rookie or star player cards in excellent condition.

It’s always a good idea to do some research on current market values before making a purchase to ensure you are getting a fair price.

Completing Your Set

Completing an entire set can be daunting but also very rewarding. The ’87 Topps Baseball Card Set has 792 cards so it may take some time and effort to find them all.

My tip for completing this set is to start with common players first as they tend to be easier and cheaper to find compared to star players or rookie cards. You can also trade duplicates with other collectors or attend local sports card shows where you may come across vendors selling specific cards you need.

Tips for Collecting

Here are some additional tips for collecting ’87 Topps Baseball Cards:

– Keep your collection organized – whether it’s by team, number order, or alphabetically.
– Invest in protective sleeves or pages to keep your cards safe from damage.
– Consider grading valuable cards by a professional grading company such as PSA or Beckett.
– Take advantage of online resources such as forums or Facebook groups dedicated to collecting this specific set.
– Have fun! Collecting should be enjoyable so don’t stress too much about completing your entire set at once.

In conclusion, collecting ’87 Topps Baseball Cards is not only an enjoyable hobby but also a great investment opportunity. With its iconic design and roster of legendary players, this set is definitely worth adding to your collection. By following these tips and being patient while searching for specific cards, you will have no problem completing your own ’87 Topps Baseball Card Set!
